Our Mission:
Cougar Creek Elementary creates a safe, caring learning environment that supports a diverse community in reaching academic and social excellence.
Our School:
Cougar Creek Elementary School opened in the fall of 2003. In addition to the traditional K-5 classrooms, Cougar Creek has a self-contained life skills classroom, an autism classroom, a special education resource room, and a learning assistance program (LAP), serving students in reading. Speech, Occupational Therapy, and English as a Second Language services are also available for students who qualify. Music, PE, library and a mobile computer lab enhance our general academic program.

Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS)
The ITBS is a standardized norm-referenced test that allows us to compare the achievement of our students with 3rd graders across the nantion. Our students consistently score above the national average of 50.

Goal 1 - Read with comprehension, write with skill, and communicate effectively and responsibly in a variety of ways and settings;
Goal 2 - Know and apply the core concepts and principles of mathmatics: social, physical, and life sciences: civics and history; geography; art; and health and fitness;

School Improvement Goals
Math
To increase the number of students meeting the math standard on the WASL from 51.4% to 64.4% by June 2005.
Reading
To increase the number of students meeting the reading standard on the WASL from 62% to 72% by June 2005.
In addition to the WASL, which is given to all fourth graders, the following assessments are used to monitor student learning and guide instruction:
Kindergarten: Brigance Inventory
First Grade: Informal sound and sight word assessment
Second Grade: Direct Reading Assessment (DRA)
Thrid Grade: Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS)
Second through Fifth Grades: Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) in math and reading
All Grades: District Writing Assessment
The district provides staff with a number of professional development days each year. These days are used to analyze assessment data and improve instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of our students.
Parent Involvement
Cougar Creek Elementary School is fortunate to have dedicated parents working to support their children and the school. Whether volunteering in the classrooms, supporting special events and activities, or helping students at home, parents are a valuable part of the team working for Cougar Creek students.
A strong PTA supports the programs of Cougar Creek the human and fincial resources.
