Board Business
School board meetings are for the purpose of conducting the general business of the district, and are held in public.

Special Meetings and Study Sessions
The Board president may call special meetings to transact business at any time or place when it is necessary or when it is requested by a majority of the members. Business transacted at a special meeting will be limited to that stated in the meeting notice.

The School Board may meet in special session prior to regular meetings or at other designated times, subject to the notice requirements of law and board policy.

Study sessions may be held to provide an opportunity for members to ask for and give information and for discussion and deliberation of matters pending before the Board. Study sessions will be open to the public and are held at English Crossing Elementary School in the Technology Training Lab (Portable 309).

Procedures
All meetings of the Board, except executive sessions, are open to the public. The general public is welcome and encouraged to observe the Board in action.

As the elected representatives of the school district with authority and responsibility for the operation of the public schools, the Board seeks opinions on matters of importance to the community, the staff, and the students.

It is our policy to welcome opinions on issues under consideration, and to address concerns via the following channels:
1) Letters addressed to the Board president at the official district address outlining your issues.
2) Letters to the Superintendent for referral to the Board.
3) Written requests for time on the agenda during regular sessions.

We recognize the value of public comment on educational issues and the importance of open meetings. In order to permit fair and orderly expression of such comment, the Board will provide a period of time during which visitors may make formal presentations that have been scheduled in advance.

The Board may also allow individuals to express opinions on agenda items prior to action. The president shall first recognize individuals wishing to be heard. After identifying themselves, they will make comments as briefly as the subject permits. The president may interrupt or terminate any statement which he/she feels is too lengthy, abusive, obscene, personally directed, or irrelevant. The Board as a whole shall have the final decision determining the appropriateness of all such rulings.
