Running Start is a program that was created by the Washington State Legislature. It provides students with the opportunity to enroll in courses at local community colleges while they are still in high school. Students may enroll in any combination of high school and college courses, or take courses solely at the college. Students receive high school and college credit for the courses completed at the college. Running Start classes are tuition free; however, students must purchase their own books and materials, pay regular lab fees, pay a one-time matriculation fee (up to $20), and provide their own transportation and meals.
Application Process
Pick up an application in the Counseling Department. Request an official transcript from Ms. Baird in the Counseling Department. Complete the application and submit it to the college, along with the official transcript and any application fees ($20 at EvCC, none at SVC). Once you receive notification that your application was accepted, register to take the Asset test. Attend the Running Start orientation on the date assigned by the college. Pick up an Enrollment Authorization form from Mrs. Scott or Ms. Mendro in the Counseling Office. Take your Enrollment Authorization form with you to your appointment with the Running Start Counselor. The Counselor will help you register for classes.
Deadlines
Check with your counselor.
