8:00-Staff meeting in Library

We appreciate you for taking the time to attend the Open House and meet your student’s teachers.  Teachers will present a brief overview  of their classes.   If you would like to discuss your individual student, please feel free to contact any of your student's teachers or counselor to set up an appointment.

There are a couple changes at LHS this year:
  • No more Tutorial on Tuesdays -- we will be using the regular schedule
  • We are adding an "Advisory Class" to Wednesday's schedule.  In this class you will have opportunities to explore post-High School options, track your academic and personal progress, work toward completing your senior project, participate in mentoring activities (9th grade), participate in personality and aptitude assessments, and create a positive culture amongst the other students in your advisory.

I'm excited about these changes at Lakewood High School and how they will help all students succeed during their time in school as well as create realistic goals and a plan for after High School.

In other news:
We have hired three new teachers this summer:

  • Emily Price will be teaching two periods of English 10.

  • Crystal Henderson (whom you may remember from last fall) will teach 3 periods of Health and 1 period of PE.

  • Thomas Silberberger will teach one period of Sports Medicine and provide Athletic Training Support after school.

We are going to have an after-school “tutoring” program.

  • Each Tuesday and Thursday from 2:15 to 3:00 the Library will be used as a place for students to work on homework, get help, and get organized.

  • The District has made it possible for students to take the “late bus” with the Elementary students in order to get home.

  • This program will begin the second week of school.  It will be voluntary to begin with, but as students identify themselves as needing help, we may assign students to the program.

The late bus opportunity will also be available for students staying after school for club and activity meetings as well.

  • We will develop a system for accounting for students that need transportation on the bus.

We have developed a bell schedule for next year that has a new Wednesday schedule that includes the Advisory period (each class is 35 minutes long), as well as a “simplified NORMAL” Schedule that has periods beginning and ending on the “5’s”.

Mr. Curl.
