The
Lakewood Elementary Computer lab is equipped with 30 computers,
serving kindergarten, first and second grade students. Our focus
is on becoming familiar with the parts of the computer, general
computer terms, beginning word processing, math, and reading.
The curriculum complements what the students are currently learning
in class. The programs can be adjusted to accommodate all learners.

I am frequently asked about appropriate websites and which websites
I use in the computer lab. 101 Best Websites for Kids by Trevor
Meers is a wonderful resource. I find that many educational websites
require a lot of reading and do not lend themselves well in a
classroom setting. Students would need to be independent readers
to be able to use these sites in the lab. I would encourage you
to use these sites at home as you would be able to assist in reading.
I currently use the following websites in my lab:
pbskids.org Cyberchase has challenging
math and science games.
seussville.com allows students
to play Dr. Seuss games and even write their
own stories.
www.mypyramid.gov/kids/kids_game.html
This section allows students to make food choices for meals
for one day. Making healthy choices allows the rocket to blast-off.
www.mamamedia.com/activities/clubs/games_club/home.html
offers art, puzzles, riddles, and all around silly fun.
