Dear
Families:
Welcome to Lakewood
Elementary School! We are excited you are a part of our early
childhood learning community. We are very proud of our families'
ongoing participation with our students. There are numerous ways
to be involved, from volunteering at school, to joining PTA. We
honor any contribution to our learning community.
The Lakewood School
District has set a strategic goal that students will be reading
on or above grade level by the end of third grade. We know that
good reading and homework habits begin in kindergarten and strengthen
in first and second grade. Families are essential in developing
these skills. The children will be expected to participate in
our Reading at Home Program. The program requires a commitment
of 15 to 20 minutes, five days a week to read, to be read to or
to listen to someone reading. This is an excellent opportunity
for families to spend quality time together developing the foundation
for literacy. A school where all children whose families share
and enjoy reading with them is a worthwhile goal, which can only
be accomplished with your help!
Our vision at Lakewood
Elementary School is that of a collaborative partnership of staff,
parents and community. Together we will provide a learning environment,
which will foster learning as a continuous life long process.
Sincerely,
Dr. Sheila Woods,
Principal
