Hi! Welcome again to Ms. Gann's personal web site. On this page you'll learn
all about Ms. Gann's classroom. To link to the school's web site, click here. It's the end of the school year, so
instead of the usual assignments and projects, I'll just give you a quick
once-over on the class descriptions.
7th grade Literacy Block
Literacy Block is a two-period class that combines reading
with language arts. It covers writing, reading and communication skills.
Learner Objectives
- To use correct grammar and
spelling patterns
- To know and identify basic
parts of speech and parts of a sentence
- To use the writing process to
become a better write
- To discuss the elements of
short stories and novels such as plot, characterization, setting, ect.
- To understand symbolic and
figurative language and use to improve writing
- To effectively reflect about
writing and set personal improvement goals
- To understand and use
different skills and strategies to read
- To understand the meaning of
what is read
- To read different materials
for a variety of purposes
- To set goals and evaluate progress
to improve reading
- To communicate positively and
effectively in a variety of modes.
Reading at home
Students who practice their reading skills will improve them. Students are
encouraged to read at least twenty to thirty minutes a day.
7th grade Social studies
This class consists of one semester of Washington State History, and one
semester of World Geography. Because of time constraints, we will move quickly thought
the world in Geography, not spending too much time in any one subject. In Washington
State History, we will focus on statehood to present. Note that
passing Washington State History is a requirement for graduation!!!

changes affect people
- Understand the elements of

- Describe the location and
important characteristics of the region of Washington State
- Understand how physical
geography affected the growth and development of the state
- Understand and explain the organization
and unique priorities of the government of Washington
- Understand events, trends, individuals,
and movements shaping and the challenges facing Washington from statehood
to present
- Understand the rights and
accompanying responsibilities of citizens of Washington
- Understand the influences of
different cultural groups in Washington
