    FCCLA hosts Valentine’s tea for senior citizens

    Lakewood High School students made it a special Valentine’s Day for a group of seniors at Warm Beach Senior Community. Members of the FCCLA club (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) created valentines and decorated cookies with residents during a Valentine’s Day tea. Serving community is the foundation of FCCLA, a Career and Technical Student Organization that functions as an integral part of the Family and Consumer Sciences education curriculum.

    National School Counseling Week

    Students in Karin Robinson’s class at Cougar Creek Elementary were learning about resiliency this week with school counselor Bailey Richardson. Each lesson starts with a “mindful music meditation.” Then, using a book called, “Weathering the Storm,” students had a chance to hold their Slumberkins stuffies and think about how the characters reacted to a challenging situation.     Dual-credit classes bring college to LHS

    Motivated high school students have options when it comes to earning college credit. One option, College in the High School, is a cooperative program between Lakewood and Everett Community College. Courses are taught by Lakewood teachers who work closely with EvCC faculty mentors to ensure the work the students perform in the high school course is equivalent to a similar course taught on campus.

    Launching into physics with a long shot

    Distance and accuracy both matter when it comes to launching an object and hitting a target. To overcome Earth’s gravity, machines like catapults and trebuchets rely on energy. As the semester wrapped up last week, juniors and seniors in Jon Nauert’s physics class tested their trebuchets to see which machine would propel a small ball the farthest and which was the most accurate.
