Grounds
The School Grounds Department is responsible for the care and maintenance of approximately 93 acres of district property, including landscaped areas, athletic fields, playgrounds, and paved surfaces. With a staffing level of 1.5 FTE, the department supports safe, attractive, and functional outdoor environments that enhance student learning, physical activity, and community use.
Primary Responsibilities
Landscape Maintenance
• Maintain and clean shrub and planting beds across school campuses
• Prune trees and shrubs to support plant health and ensure student safety
• Mow, edge, and maintain lawn areas used for recess, outdoor learning, and school events
• Operate, inspect, and repair irrigation systems to ensure efficient water use
Drainage Systems
• Clean and maintain catch basins to prevent flooding on school grounds
• Repair and monitor storm drains to ensure proper water flow during all seasons
• Maintain detention and retention tanks or ponds that support campus drainage infrastructure
Driveways and Parking Lots
• Sweep and clean asphalt surfaces used for student drop‑off, bus loading zones, and staff parking
• Perform minor asphalt repairs to maintain safe and accessible traffic areas
Playground Safety & Maintenance
• Conduct routine inspections of playground structures to ensure compliance with safety standards
• Repair playground equipment to maintain safe play environments
• Maintain and replenish cushioning materials to ensure proper fall protection under equipment
Athletic & Sports Field Management
• Operate, maintain, and repair irrigation systems for athletic fields
• Mow, sweep, fertilize, and renovate natural grass sports fields used for PE classes and school athletics
• Prepare baseball, softball, track, football, and soccer fields for seasonal sports, including lining, grooming, and surface preparation
