• In collaboration with the Washington State Department of Health, our school district is participating in a state-funded effort to provide voluntary COVID-19 testing that will be incorporated into our existing district reopening plans to further help contain the virus, protect our communities, and keep students and teachers safe and healthy whether they are remote or in-person.  This letter will explain how the testing will work and how you can register for this option in advance.

Here is how the voluntary testing will work within and support our existing protocols

    • Symptom check and report: As you know we are asking everyone – teachers, staff, and students, to complete a daily symptom and exposure check each morning. People who report symptoms or exposure screen in to the free and easy testing process.

    • Voluntary testing: Teachers, staff, students, and members of their household who show symptoms or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 will be referred to onsite testing in our district, where they can get a free test that day. We will also provide free testing to teachers and staff who do not have symptoms before the return of a new grade band and after long breaks. If a test is positive, staff and students will be asked to isolate for at least 10 days and until symptoms have resolved. If the test is negative, they will be asked to isolate until symptoms have improved.

      • Nasal swab tests: We are partnering with a company called Curative, which uses painless, highly reliable nasal swab test kits. With these kits, individuals collect their own sample under the observation of a trained test administrator (usually the school nurse).  These samples are sent to Curative’s lab daily.  Results are returned within 48 hours to 96 hours.

    •  Exposure response: When a positive case is identified, the school will activate its exposure response plan, planning the quarantine or isolation of the individual(s) who have a confirmed case and initiating contact tracing within the school district.  The district will offer free and easy testing to everyone who has had contact with an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19.

    • Contact tracing: Every positive case is reported to the county health department for case investigation and contact tracing. All close contacts will be asked to quarantine for 14 days, regardless of the test results, in order to prevent further household or community transmission.

We encourage all families and staff to create a Curative profile at the appropriate link listed below to be prepared if the need or desire for you to be tested arises. By creating this profile, testing availability will be activated. All health information is kept strictly confidential and the district and Curative abide by HIPPA rules and regulations.

**Due to a Curative software update 10/2021, in order to create an appointment, individuals must answer “Yes” to the following screening question: In the past 14 days have you come into contact with someone who could be infected with COVID-19. If “NO” is selected in response to this question, the platform will not allow an appointment to be created.
