    A primary focus of the 2022-2023 school year will be articulating and supporting clear, shared commitments and expectations that define what it means to be and become a Lakewood Cougar. Each school will be talking with students, staff and parents to determine how best to support each other as we realize these commitments in all of our interactions this year.     Youths can ride Community Transit for free

    Youths ages 18 and younger can now ride Community Transit for free. An ORCA card is encouraged for middle and high school students. To receive your free ORCA card, contact Lakewood's Student Support Advocate, Meitra Williams, mewilliams@lwsd.wednet.edu.

    Before the grade: Understanding student progress

    When a teacher returns a graded assignment, it’s common for students to check the letter grade, compare their grade with a friend, and then stuff the assignment into their backpack where they never look at it again. Lakewood schools are not eliminating grades. But during professional development on Thursday, Lakewood teachers learned strategies and techniques that will enable them to embed formative assessment into everyday instruction.

    Lakewood welcomes new teachers

    About 20 teachers who are new to the district met on August 29 to learn about Lakewood and meet some of their colleagues. The teachers also had a chance to learn about each school during a short bus tour with Executive Director of Learning Support Dale Leach.
