Principal's Message - September
Dear Families & Community Members:
I want to welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year. Our school has a rich history of family engagement and support, high academic standards, and a rich community feel. I’m very excited for my first year at Cougar Creek Elementary and look forward to working with our community.
For those of you that did not meet me in the spring, I’d like to share a little about myself. I have been an educator for 26 years. I started my career at Post Middle School in Arlington as a special education teacher and school counselor. I have been in the Lakewood School District for 16 years, 4 as assistant principal at LMS and 12 as principal of ECE. While at ECE, we earned the Washington Achievement Award 4 times and the School of Distinction Award 1 time. I have two wonderful children; McKenna who is a sophomore at George Fox studying to be an elementary teacher and Blake who is a junior at Arlington High School. Some of my hobbies include backpacking, cycling, and skiing.
In the upcoming weeks, and throughout the year, you will be hearing about a new student management program at CCE called “Time To Teach!” This program focuses on teachers teaching specific skills to help students manage their behaviors and be a positive classmate. ECE has utilized Time To Teach for five years and I can attest that it has a significant impact on improving the climate within a school. More information will be coming home with your student the first full week of school.
In closing, I am very honored to be the principal of CCE and look forward to supporting our community of learners as we launch into a new school year. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions and/or feedback.
Bill Landry, Principal
