FFA students raise chickens for livestock show

Lakewood FFA brought home 14 blue ribbons, 2 red ribbons, and 3 Class Champion ribbons at the Puget Sound Junior Livestock Show at the Skagit County Fairgrounds.

Eight FFA students from Lakewood High School competed from May 31 to June 1. The students took on the task of raising meat chickens from the time they were 1-day old. The experience gives students an opportunity to learn about livestock and raise their own food. Each student was tasked with researching the care, feeding, and breed information for five chicks.

Peyton took Champion in his weight class and won Reserve Grand Champion in the Market class. Julianna took Reserve Champion in her weight class.
