Principal's Weekly Communication
9/19/23
Good afternoon English Crossing Elementary families,
As you may know, schools are required to practice monthly safety drills. These drills include earthquake, fire, lockdown, and shelter-in-place. Most months will be fire drills which include an evacuation of the building. Teachers and specialists teach the purpose of the drill as well as the expected behaviors during drills. At the start of the year, we do a lot of teaching ahead of time. This decreases over the course of the school year. There are some students who get anxious during drills, for these students, teachers will give them some notice ahead of the scheduled drill.
September is Attendance Awareness Month. Attending school every day, all day, and arriving on time is critical to success in school. We send a daily automated phone call each morning when students have an unexcused absence. Please make sure to call ahead if you know your child will be absent. For pre-planned absences, we have a form in the office for families to fill out ahead of time.
A reminder that every Friday is an early release this year. Students are dismissed at 1:45pm.
I am honored to serve you and your students as principal at English Crossing. I’m looking forward to partnering with you this year! As always, please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
Respectfully,
Michele Ricci, Principal
